24 Hours of Le Mans

24 Hours of Le Mans in SartheAudi and Tom Kristensen do "The big eight" Against relentless and strong opposition from Peugeot during 24 hours, Audi wins the 76th running of the 24 hours of Le Mans 2008! the Ingolstadt based marque secured their 8th victory in 9 attempts, this time thanks to the trio Kristensen-McNish-Capello. the Danish driver, Tom Kristensen also celebrates his 8th personal victory in this classic race which establishes a new record. Peugeot completed the podium by putting two of their 908 Hdi FAP models into second and third place. The French constructor led for most of the first half of the race. This was only their second year running the Peugeot 908 Hdi FAP and they came close to victory.

On the petrol engine side, the French team of Pescarolo Sport was the quickest, just as they were in 2007. But in 2008 they did not appear on the podium because all six diesel cars that started the race occupied the top 6 places. LM P2 was won by the Porsche Spyders who came first and second on their first visit to the Le Mans 24 hours. Aston Martin’s DBR 9 successfully defended its lm gt1 title, Ferrari taking revenge by scoring a fabulous 1-2-3-4 in LM GT2 class. These results were made all the more remarkable and outstanding because they were watched by 258,500 enthusiastic and knowledgeable crowd who had to put up with some really appalling weather conditions.
