The Museums of Le Mans are a good introduction to our history. The Queen Berangera Museum in Le Mans is installed in three splendid houses with carved wooden elevations near the Cathedral... a charming museum of ethnography and local history and its is an essential complement to a visit to Old Le Mans.
The art enthusiats will be pleased to know Malicorne, one of the major centres of French pottery since the 18th century. A great many potters have shop in the streets and offer some splendid pieces that blend tradition and modernity. To find out about the art of making pots, take a guided tour of the workshops at the "Faïenceries d'Art de Malicorne" and the "Malicorne Espace Faïence".
For a complete immersion into culture, the Museum of Mechanical Music in Dollon has a novel collection of mechanical musical instruments and objects including barrel organs, mechanical pianos, musical boxes and phonographs too. The guided tour ends beautifully in the reconstructed "1920s" cinema auditorium. As well, a visit of the Amusing Museum in Juigné-sur-Sarthe (a show museum spectacle of toys and unusual traditional objects) and of the Musée des Poupées d'antan in Malicorne-sur-Sarthe (pretty old dolls presented in the trades of bygone times) will be an enchantment for everyone.
