Natura 2000 is the Europe-wide network of sites tasked with the preservation of our natural heritage. At a European level, Sarthe has a dozen natural sites, listed “Natura 2000”. Two remarkable sites of 20,000 hectares in the bocages are listed “Natura 2000”: in the north of the Perseigne Forest and in the south of Sillé-le-Guillaume Forest, home to the Osmoderma eremita, a kind of beetle.
