Lock on the Sarthe

The River Sarthe rises in the hills of Perche, in the Orne department at Soligny-la-Trappe, in an ancient village called Somme-Sarthe (meaning «Summit of the Sarthe»). The river serves as a border between the Departments of Orne and Sarthe at two places and crosses Alençon before entering the Department of Sarthe near Saint-Léonard-des-Bois. Its courses measures 286 km, 132 kilometres of which are navigable with 130 kilometres in the Department of Sarthe, including 82 kilometres of navigable waterway and 16 locks. The Sarthe River is also home to fishes of all sizes such as perch, carp, trout, sander. Your fishing rod is quivering already!
