Sarthe has acquired its reputation because of some enthusistic restauranteurs insistent on using quality, flavoursome and local produce. They will introduce you to some novel dishes like marmite sarthoise, a chicken stew made with poultry farm from Loué, sweet sablés, a kind of soft shortbread, not forgetting the famous Rillettes du Mans. The "Route du Vignoble" of the Loir Valley also have a good reputation: visit the premises of these producers for tastings of AOC Jasnières and Coteaux du Loir wines. |
